Sexism and Sitcom

It’s not the first time I’ve seen the series. I watched it sporadically when it was first released, back in 2011. I was at sixth-form and quickly grew tired of it, but I didn’t know why. I do now. Seventeen-year-old me may have been unnecessarily competitive with her female peers; she may have used the word “slut” liberally; she may have heard misogynistic comments and let them slide… but the feminist buried somewhere within found New Girl sexist. She just didn’t know it then.

Léa's Diary

How important is your social life to you? How important is your family life to you? How about working hours? Does it bother you to work long hours or at night? Do you need a routine? Those were some of the questions I was asked during my interview to get into film school.

Meet Director, Jaclyn Bethany

F: What is your background?

J: I did! I am originally from Jackson, Mississippi and have always pursued the arts. First it was musical theatre, then Shakespeare, and then more theatre, but cinema had always been a part of my backbone. I am not from a creative family, but there is quite a long history of grassroots creativity where I am from. Mississippi has a canon of legendary writers (William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, to name a few) and musicians (Elvis!). I wasn't on my first set until about six years ago, as a background actor

Sarah Pirozek: Producer, Director, and Writer

F: Tell me about your background. Did you go to film school? when did you start developing a passion for filmmaking?

S: I had kind of an unconventional upbringing. I was in German schools at first, then went to school in the USA, and then British boarding school, until my mother decided to move to Spain and I was out on my own at 16. My mother’s family had all been either painters or in the Navy.

Kristina Ti: Fashion Meets Film

Cristina Tardito and I had a lovely FaceTime chat, each in our own house in Italy, respecting Covid–19 social distancing. Designer and CEO of Italian fashion brand Kristina Ti, in 2018 she launched a limited-edition line of clothes with a fashion film entitled Room 101. Cristina replaced the more traditional runway show by presenting her dresses in an intimate, mysterious and sensual short movie. In this interview, she reveals curious stories about her experience with merging the film and fashion industries.

Aggy K Adams, emerging bold actress

F: When did you decide to become an actress?

A: First time it came into my head as a dream when I saw Natalie Portman in Leon, I was about eight years old. I had no idea what it meant to be an actress, but I knew I wanted to be like her. Then I did bits and bobs towards that direction but the conscious decision to pursue this as a profession came only about five years ago.

Frenchie trainee diary - by Léa

Hiya! I hope everyone’s holidays were full of family/friends, presents, food, and drinks! On my side, I used this holiday to stuff my belly with amazing homemade dinners and most importantly, to relax after a great year of work! As New Year's is the time to reflect on the year that has passed, I look back and realise I have been so lucky. I have had the amazing opportunity to take my first steps in the TV drama world, work on features with lovely people, and to continue working in commercials and short films along the way. It’s been absolutely amazing, so a big thank you to everyone who took me on! It took me about a two years to get here, and it wasn’t easy, so let's track back to the first time I made my first film contact.

In conversation with award winning Cinematographer, Ashley Barron (ACS)

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I’m an international, award-winning Director of Photography (DP) recently Accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society. I grew up between Russia, Armenia, Ireland and Australia, which has shaped my unique mix of visual attitudes, perspective and approach. I started out as camera assistant before being selected as 1 of 28 Cinematographers in the world to train at the American Film Institute Conservatory in Hollywood, where I was the youngest in my class.

In conversation with Annie Sulzberger, Head of Research for “The Crown” TV Series

Annie Sulzberger is an avid reader with a great sense of humor and a passion for discovery. Her curiosity drives her to always dig deeper without settling. In this interview, she teaches us the importance of perseverance, curiosity and summarization and shares curious stories from her experience working as the Head of Research for “The Crown” Netflix TV Series.

Emily Dodds: Founder of Willow & Rose Make-up

- What in your opinion is the “must-have” products for every woman? ( moisturiser, foundation etc...)

A great moisturiser which can also act as a primer for makeup.... you don’t always need both! An eye cream, as makeup just wont sit well underneath eyes without it. A good foundation or tinted moisturiser, concealer for under eye circles with peach tones in it, cream blusher to suit your skin tone, powder and an excellent mascara, then you are good to go!! (You can use the cream blush as an eye shadow and lipstick did you know?!)

Meet Anna Radchenko - Director and multiform artist

I meet Anna Radchenko, a London-based, award-winning director originally from Russia, for brunch at the very lush Coral Room in central London. Having followed her online, I always found Anna’s work so exciting, new, and original, which feels rare these days, especially in a society where “blending in” is the new normal. Not with Anna. Her neoteric style and fearless visuals are always so present through her commercials, fashion and art projects.

Live-r Longer & Healthier

I read an inspiring quote the other day by Edward Stanley: ‘Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness’. Wow. So much truth in such a small sentence. This got me thinking about an often forgotten and very much neglected organ with a role absolutely integral to our optimal health - the liver. Most of us are aware that the liver is responsible for detoxification, but the liver has many other vital roles. Interestingly, it is the heaviest gland in the body weighing in at approximately 1.4kg in any average adult.

Sugar Town Girls and the new era of female adult films

I watch porn. Why is it so important? 1/3 of the internet traffic is porn. In 2018, 14 billion videos were watched on YouPorn. And 29% of the clicks were from women. Let’s talk about it! We do watch porn, and we like it! But 54% of the 24,000 women that were surveyed by YouPorn in 2017 say that they don’t discuss their viewing habits with friends, and 51% of them would feel embarrassed if their friends found out. Despite that, 28% of them watch it daily and another 63% weekly.
