Lockdown Filmmakers "Killing" Time Kit
If you are a fellow freelance filmmaker, there is a good chance you have been completely off work for the past few months. Gaining weight and renewing the wine delivery membership are just two of the many experiences we all shared during this uncanny days.
Now, I know everyone is bombarding us with lists of what we should be doing: healthy cooking, yoga, meditation, gardening and Marie Kondoing your place…
When you exhausted those options, here is a list of film/art related stuff to do…
THE DILIGENT ONES:
write that bloody script! Every evening at the pub (good old days!) you used to pester your friends by pitching your amazing script ideas. The time is now. Write it down
Organise your kit! There is no better sensation than labelling all the parts of your kit with your own name or company name. When you’ll be back on set there won’t be any more lost items
Accountants also suggest to complete your tax return before the 31/01/2021
THE GEEKY ONES:
follow the BSC live talks! During these last months we have being watching so many fantastic conversations with some of our favourite DoPs, camera ops and gaffers! I feel I know Roger and James (Deakins) so well now I could invite them over for brunch
Follow BECTU as well…they are making huge progress in defining how we will be able to get back on set safely. Download the recovery plan on the website https://bectu.org.uk/article/film-tv-recovery-plan/
Courses, courses, courses! Widen your understanding of the craft and the industry with loads of available courses on different online platforms: Raindance, Sundance, OpenUniversity, Masterclass…
THE ARTSY ONES:
prove your skills and creativity by recreating paintings and film shots on social media! Follow the hashtags #betweenartandquarantine #gettymuseumchallange #shotinisolation
Visit some of the world’s best museums from the comfort of your couch! 3D tours and Google Arts & Culture bring you from Uffizi to The British Museum, from Guggenheim to the Vatican Museums
THE NIGHT OUT IN ONES:
National Theatre is streaming for free on YouTube some of their best productions! Get the wine and your good pyjamas out for a fancy evening of drama
Uniqlo Tate Late Nights are back…online! Tate is one of the best places in town and the Tate Late Nights were one of London’s favourite hangouts in pre-Covid life…and they are finally back on streaming! Loads of talks, workshops, films and music!
Hoping this list will help killing some time, remember…it’s fine to feel a bit crap in these absurd times!
